The Journey So Far
The ADRT Project started in 2006 with a small dedicated group of individuals in the East Midlands. We gained Department of Health funding to achieve our goals. The group produced regional specialist guidance that has been developed into the national resource, “Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment: A Guide for Health and Social Care Professionals - 2008 ”.
There is a clear need for guidance and this has been produced by the End of life Care Programme and National Council for Palliative Care. This national guide now supercedes the East Midlands Specialist Guidance 2007. This training programme has been written primarily for professionals although any person supporting such a decision could use this resource.
It is the responsibility of organisations to decide upon their own strategy to train their workforce. It is an expectation that this ADRT Guidance, as presented in this training programme, will allow organisations to deliver their own training in the context of their local needs.
